SJG 12: The Master Promises the Holy Spirit #fb #dumcMY #sermon

Pastor Daniel Ho, 02/07/2011

On 08/04/1994, an electrician found a dead body. A shotgun was found beside a body. The face of the body was blown beyond recognition. He had died several days before. He was Kurt Kobain, the lead singer of Nirvana, one of the most talented guitarists in his time. His wife, Courtney Love had before this had asked the police to remove his weapons lest he hurt himself or others. The band released the Nevermind album in 1991 and it topped the chart, exceeding Michael Jackson’s Dangerous in 1992. The title of the album suggested an attitude of it doesn’t matter. It’s a reflection of the generation that has lost its anchor. There is a world of difference between truth and taste.

Rev. Dr. Tan Siang Yang, 06/05/2011
There is an emphasis on leadership based on the books we can find. There are some who mentioned servant leadership. But the Bible talks about servanthood.

Be a Righteous Servant #dumcMY #fb

Rev Irwin Rutherford, 19/03/2011

It’s Missions Weekend here in DUMC,

Psa 31:14-16  But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, "You are my God."  (15)  My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me.  (16)  Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love.

(This will be for tomorrow – Every Member a Servant.)

A video on the unreached is shown. Majority of the missions resources are NOT channeled to the poorest unreached people group.

Overcoming Myths

Luk 13:18-21  He said therefore, "What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it?  (19)  It is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his garden, and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches."  (20)  And again he said, "To what shall I compare the kingdom of God?  (21)  It is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, until it was all leavened."

TEJM V – The Sick Woman

Pastor Chris Kam, 25/07/2010

This is the fifth installment in the Transformation Encounters with Jesus in Mark’s Gospel.

We commonly link healing with physical healing. But we need healing in every aspect of of our life – emotionally, mentally, spiritually, etc.

Pastor Chris experienced a healing when he was 23 or 24 in Australia. He heard that he could lay hand on himself and asked for the Holy Spirit to heal him. He prayed and was healed of his nose block and he didn’t need a nasal spay anymore.

We can expect something will happen when we play. That gives us hope. It encourages us.

The text is taken from Mark 5:24-34. It tells of a ‘touch and go’ healing.

Blessings in Christ

Pastor Cheah Seuk Poh, 30/05/2010 1045
Note on the worship. It’s very normal. That must have been the most mellow My Life Is In You I have ever seen / heard. If not for the backup vocalist hopping in her high heels …
A video clip is shown of a worship session without the PA system. It’s a recruitment drive by the drew crew.
Pastor Cheah emphasized that the church needs many different people in the team, some on stage, some off the stage and some backstage. A team of 9 is going to a fishing village Kuala Kurau for a short mission.
The text is taken from Ephesian 1:14.
