Pastor Tan Moy How, 27/11/2010
Dan 5:12-17;22-30 because an excellent spirit, knowledge, and understanding to interpret dreams, explain riddles, and solve problems were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation." (13) Then Daniel was brought in before the king. The king answered and said to Daniel, "You are that Daniel, one of the exiles of Judah, whom the king my father brought from Judah. (14) I have heard of you that the spirit of the gods is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you. (15) Now the wise men, the enchanters, have been brought in before me to read this writing and make known to me its interpretation, but they could not show the interpretation of the matter. (16) But I have heard that you can give interpretations and solve problems. Now if you can read the writing and make known to me its interpretation, you shall be clothed with purple and have a chain of gold around your neck and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom." (17) Then Daniel answered and said before the king, "Let your gifts be for yourself, and give your rewards to another. Nevertheless, I will read the writing to the king and make known to him the interpretation. … (22) And you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this, (23) but you have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven. And the vessels of his house have been brought in before you, and you and your lords, your wives, and your concubines have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see or hear or know, but the God in whose hand is your breath, and whose are all your ways, you have not honored. (24) "Then from his presence the hand was sent, and this writing was inscribed. (25) And this is the writing that was inscribed: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, and PARSIN. (26) This is the interpretation of the matter: MENE, God has numbered the days of your kingdom and brought it to an end; (27) TEKEL, you have been weighed in the balances and found wanting; (28) PERES, your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians." (29) Then Belshazzar gave the command, and Daniel was clothed with purple, a chain of gold was put around his neck, and a proclamation was made about him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom. (30) That very night Belshazzar the Chaldean king was killed.

TLS5–the Transformational Leadership of Esther (DUMC)
Pastor Michael Ngui, 20/11/2010
Life is a continuous process to expect the unexpected. (I might have misquoted this.)
Pastor Michael listed some instances in life to illustrate that life is full of surprises. Some of us plan our lives so well and some of use just live for the moment. Either way, we do have things in life that is unexpected.
Some of us fly by the seats of our pants (meaning, decide a course of action as you go along, using your own initiative and perceptions rather than a pre-determined plan or mechanical aids.)
1Co 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
God is faithful. We often find a way of escape if we don’t give up and depend on his.

It’s a mad Madworld
17/11/2010 (Wed)
2 characters, 8 scenes, 1 MadWorld.
I have the privilege to attend the bloggers’ preview of MadWorld, a joint Christmas production by DUMC and SIB.
During the briefing before the run, Ronny Shim the producer, explained that MadWorld is one word because the subject is not the world (as in the world being mad) but the people in the world.
The cast can dance. I got goose bumps watching a dance sequence before the preview proper. They can sing too.
MadWorld tells the stories of Adam, the victim and Lucas, the one who had it all. While their lives are worlds apart, they both seek the answer to the same question – “what is the value of their souls?” Does the value of our souls correspond to our possessions?
Two vast different views are represented by Pearly and Sinister respectively.
I had to ask Jesse the name of one song. It was Sexy Back.
What is Christmas really? Is there more to the celebration and party? While we are have a good time. Do we care about the suffering of the others?
So many are caught up in their own existence. We don’t even know that we are suffering.
I chose to focus on the stage performance. I didn’t look at the media on the monitors. With the media I will get the complete picture. The show is 80% non-verbal.
From what I see, this is shaping up to be a good show – heart pumping music, beautiful singing, powerful dancing, good choreography and an important question. Come to the MadWorld.
Show times at the DUMC Dream Centre (map here). No tickets required. Come one, come all.

TLS 4 - The transformational Leadership of David
Pastor Dr. Daniel Ho, 13/11/2010
1Sa 17:1-11 ,45:51 Now the Philistines gathered their armies for battle. And they were gathered at Socoh, which belongs to Judah, and encamped between Socoh and Azekah, in Ephes-dammim. (2) And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered, and encamped in the Valley of Elah, and drew up in line of battle against the Philistines. (3) And the Philistines stood on the mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on the mountain on the other side, with a valley between them. (4) And there came out from the camp of the Philistines a champion named Goliath of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span. (5) He had a helmet of bronze on his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail, and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze. (6) And he had bronze armor on his legs, and a javelin of bronze slung between his shoulders. (7) The shaft of his spear was like a weaver's beam, and his spear's head weighed six hundred shekels of iron. And his shield-bearer went before him. (8) He stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, "Why have you come out to draw up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me. (9) If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will be your servants. But if I prevail against him and kill him, then you shall be our servants and serve us." (10) And the Philistine said, "I defy the ranks of Israel this day. Give me a man, that we may fight together." (11) When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid. …(45) Then David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. (46) This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, (47) and that all this assembly may know that the LORD saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our hand." (48) When the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the Philistine. (49) And David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone and slung it and struck the Philistine on his forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the ground. (50) So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. There was no sword in the hand of David. (51) Then David ran and stood over the Philistine and took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him and cut off his head with it. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.
Everyone one of us is a leader. Leadership is simply influence. Everyone has influence, either positive (a good leader) or negative (a bad leader.) Christians ought to be good leaders as Jesus calls us the salt (cleanses) and light (dispels darkness) of the world. Every Christian is called to be a good leader. We need to evaluate what difference we have made in the place God put us.
The Bible is the best book on leadership we can get. The Bible has remained the best sellers because it continues to remain relevant.

TLS III–Transformational Leadership of Joseph
hRev. Dr. Ong Hwai Teik, 07/11/2010
Gen 45:1-15 Then Joseph could not control himself before all those who stood by him. He cried, "Make everyone go out from me." So no one stayed with him when Joseph made himself known to his brothers. (2) And he wept aloud, so that the Egyptians heard it, and the household of Pharaoh heard it. (3) And Joseph said to his brothers, "I am Joseph! Is my father still alive?" But his brothers could not answer him, for they were dismayed at his presence. (4) So Joseph said to his brothers, "Come near to me, please." And they came near. And he said, "I am your brother, Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt. (5) And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life. (6) For the famine has been in the land these two years, and there are yet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest. (7) And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors. (8) So it was not you who sent me here, but God. He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house and ruler over all the land of Egypt. (9) Hurry and go up to my father and say to him, 'Thus says your son Joseph, God has made me lord of all Egypt. Come down to me; do not tarry. (10) You shall dwell in the land of Goshen, and you shall be near me, you and your children and your children's children, and your flocks, your herds, and all that you have. (11) There I will provide for you, for there are yet five years of famine to come, so that you and your household, and all that you have, do not come to poverty.' (12) And now your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin see, that it is my mouth that speaks to you. (13) You must tell my father of all my honor in Egypt, and of all that you have seen. Hurry and bring my father down here." (14) Then he fell upon his brother Benjamin's neck and wept, and Benjamin wept upon his neck. (15) And he kissed all his brothers and wept upon them. After that his brothers talked with him.
