Becoming a Spiritual Giant

Kang Young Woo lost his sight in an accident while he was a teenager. He did not give up and became the first blind professor from Korea. He said he did not get good results when he could see. After losing his sight, his results were excellent. He needed to spend 3 time as much time to read Braille than a normal person with books.

Pro 4:23  Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.

We learn from David, the 2nd king of the Israel kingdom. He was tending to his father’s sheep. His father didn’t ever remember him when Samuel came to look for a king to succeed Saul.

Realize His Special Identity in God

1Sa 17:26  And David said to the men who stood by him, "What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?"

David knew his identity in the Kingdom of God. He had faith that he was on God’s side and that God would be with him.

Joh 1:12  But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,

Those who believed in Jesus are children of God. They are precious in God’s eyes. God wanted to bless them and be their tower of refuge.

我是神的儿女,我是宝贵的、有用的、得胜有余的、成功的、有力量的的、有勇气的和蒙福的。
I am a child of God, I am precious, useful, overcoming, successful, powerful, courageous and blessed.

With God’s Help, David Went beyond His Own Ability

David killed lions and bears before. He knew he could go beyond his own ability with God’s help. He was not discouraged by his brother and King Saul.

Eph 3:20  Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,

God can get us to accomplish things beyond our imagination if we trust in Him.

Train Himself to See What Wonderful Thing God is Going to Accomplish

1Sa 17:45-47  Then David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.  (46)  This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,  (47)  and that all this assembly may know that the LORD saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our hand."

David made a declaration before confronting Goliath. He already saw what would happen.

Adversities should not affect us. We can choose to see it either in a positive or negative perspective.

Solving problem is the process of allowing God to accomplish wonderful things.

Questions for reflections:
1.       Who (or what) is your Goliath?
2.       What has God given you as a child of God to face your Goliath?
3.       If you have received from God can you overcome adversities?
4.       From a positive perspective, how should you see your Goliath?
