Evangelism – Malaysian Style (DUMC)

The cell church structure is the best structure for the local church to grow. However, the structure is only to assist us to grow. The people brings life to the church.

A. What is evangelism?

It is sharing  the Good News of Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit and trusting for the results.
We must have faith that whenever we share something will happen.



Act 5:42  And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.
Eph 6:19-20  and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel,  (20)  for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.
Even the great apostle asked for prayer that he could preach the gospel boldly.

• We witness by our deeds: visual evangelism

Mat 5:16  In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

• We witness by our words: verbal evangelism

All of us must seize every opportunity to share the gospel.

• We witness by our life: valid evangelism.

There are five gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and the life of you and me. The fifth gospel is the most ready gospel.

B. Why evangelism?

i) Because it is the life blood of the church.

• This is what makes the church tick.
• This determines the health of the church.

ii) Because is is the life line of the church.
Mat 28:19  Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

• It determines the future of the church.
• If the church don’t evangelize it will soon fossilize.

C. Jesus’ comments on the harvest field

• He says it is plentiful. (Mt 9:37)

Mat 9:37  Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few

• He also says it is ripe. (Jn 4:35)

Joh 4:35  Do you not say, 'There are yet four months, then comes the harvest'? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest.

D. Evangelism in the cell church

This takes place at three levels:

• Personal level
• Cell level
• Church-wide level

We must evangelize at all levels at anytime.
